Biologically I am a Lahori – Born, bred and having lived in this city for over 20 years, I can safely say Lore Lore tha!
The 15 years since I left the city, it has grown up like a cousin, once so close, now so far away!
This distant cousin has certainly shaped up; it’s beautiful, populous and sadly pompous too!
Lush green boulevards, wide freshly tarred roads, crowd pulling malls and electricity that constantly plays hide n seek!
Fashion boutiques, crème de la crème restaurants, designer wear shops, Lahore is lavish!
Recently, rain spanked it clean, and glistening smooth roads led to aromatic coffee shops instead of roadside chaat waalaas!
All non-genetic Lahoris have become more ingrained than biological left-aways like me.
I reckon I have to spend a lot more time in Lahore to get fully absorbed by its warmth, generosity and compassion, a touch and go trip certainly doesn’t do justice. And perhaps, I should stop searching for the city that grew me up and accept the new Lovely Lahore, after all lovely to lore ai!
And I also reckon that I better stop reminiscing and quickly move onto the first episode of Quick Fix meals. Today I am giving you a hearty, warm mixture of rice, turkey, nuts and olives, which takes less than 15 minutes to prepare and even less to devour. This is suitable for any weeknight dinner when you don’t have time or the ingredients to whip up a typical extravagant Lahori meal. Ho Jaye phir?
