It was the Horrid Tuesday when we were travelling back from Hoek Van Holland (The Netherlands) to Harwich (England)– in a hover craft, it was finding it difficult to fight the choppy waters and giving most of us (or perhaps only me) sea sickness. I was belching out half of the time and the other half, dying with excruciating headache. It was close to 4 pm (European time) when we set out on the rough waters, and I was dreading the next 3 hours of this horrible paper boat riding.
But at the same time another catastrophe across the Atlantic, far greater than this was chopping away sanity and belching out faith in humanity. The entire world came to a stand still when the proud Twin Towers were reduced to Ground Zero on the Horrid Tuesday of 9 September 2011. A date that modern history will always quote in black, a date that instigated extremism, a date that split religions, cultures and peoples’ heart and increased racial profiling at airports to Sherlock Holmes’ levels. I recently went through a plethora of airport checks and thought back to all the times when air travel was easier, breezier and freer. Perhaps it is time to go back to boats and hover crafts. Yikes…..
Talking of boats, my first dish for Protein Power is incidentally a Cucumber Boat, a breeze to make, nutritious and extremely juicy to look at. A plump, healthy cucumber is split in half; the seeds are scooped out and filled with gleaming pinkish orange thinly cut slices of Norwegian smoked salmon. I had this for breakfast along with some freshly toasted bread slices. You are welcome to dollop it with cream cheese.
