Gai Soap and Protein Power II
November 18, 2014

I recently listened to the most soulful voice of Nayyara Noor singing “Raat yun dil mein teray” which transported me back to the days of Dr. Zoya and Dr. Ahmar , stars of one of the most popular TV serials ‘Dhoop Kinarey.’ And funnily enough then took me to all the adverts that punctuated the 8-9 pm slot of this classic drama.
The likes of Nauras, State Life Insurance, Binaca, Dentonic, Kiwi Shoe polish, Montgomery sweets, Hamdard Gripe water and keeray maar dawaaiyaan and last but not the least ‘Karachi sey Kashmir tak Gai Soap, Pakistan ko ujla banaye.’
Three healthy beefed up cows single leg tap dancing to the Gai Soap jingle and advertising their namesake washing powder – Uber funny! Possibly a famous entity before Surf and Ariel invaded the market. Admittedly they had the power to break all levels of seriousness with their brilliant gig although not sure how much power they had to convince housewives into buying such a hefty carbolic soap tablet and make lives ujala!
Moving from Gai soap to food, red meat, if eaten mindfully is one of the most nutritious foods available to us. With its high protein, iron and Vitamin B quantities lean beef can easily be incorporated at least twice a week in our diet regimes, to give us the necessary nutritional boost. As you have rightly guessed I am going to feature a common yet extremely satiating beef dish, Beef Chili with Basil. Marinated for a minimum of half an hour, cooked on high heat with garlic, basil, chili and sauces, this oriental dish goes best with steamed rice.

One serving of this scrumptiouness will give you a whopping 30 grams of protein.
